Why Is Nutrient Status Important?

Written By Wellness Heights on March 28, 2021

Deficiencies in single nutrients can alter the body's immune response. Each nutrient in the body has a role whether it is an antioxidant for protection or a protein for growth and repair.  Epidemiological studies show that poorly nourished individuals are at greater risk for viral and bacterial infections and over long term can develop disease.

Food is the best medicine.  Consuming the RDI of fruits, vegetables, carbs, fats, dairy, and protein a day is always the best option.  The kind of foods that you are eating matters!  Nutrient value and absorption can depend on how food is cooked, and the environment in which it is grown.   The state of your gut can determine absorption as well.  If your diet isn't great and you feel you aren't getting the nutrients that you need, supplements may be the next best thing.

It is important to remember that supplements are not FDA approved.  Quality and dosage are important.  Binders and fillers can hinder absorption, etc. If you would like to get your nutrient levels or immune status tested contact us today!
