Chronic Pain

Written By Wellness Heights on July 28, 2021

Chronic pain is one of the most common reasons adults seek medical care.  Pain lasting 3 months or more has been linked to activity limitations, dependence on opioids, anxiety and depression, and reduced quality of life.

There are several ways chronic pain associated with these conditions can interfere with your everyday life. It can affect your ability to function at home and work, or engage in social activities and hobbies.  It is also common for people with chronic pain to have sleep disturbances, fatigue, trouble concentrating, decreased appetite, and mood changes. These negative changes in your lifestyle can increase your pain and dampen your overall mood; the frustration of dealing with this can result in depression and anxiety.

In a study of adults with depression and chronic pain, those with backaches and headaches had the highest odds of having major depression. It was also noted that having a chronic painful condition made depressive symptoms last longer compared to those without painful conditions.

Chiropractic has been proven as a safe and effective in treatment of chronic pain.  Chiropractors can help by relieving pressure on nerves though adjustments, perform muscle work to break up adhesions, taping to activate or inhibit muscle groups, and implement exercises to decrease muscle imbalances.  We also make diet and supplement recommendations.  Schedule your appointment with us today!
